On May 2, 2025, at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, Prof. Godwin Ogbole delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled "From Prototype to Patient: Shaping Nigeria’s Healthcare Future," during the valedictory ceremony of the 2023/24 Cohort of graduate in Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program.

In his address, Prof. Godwin Ogbole challenged graduates and stakeholders to think beyond invention. He underscored the need for pathways that connect innovation to clinical relevance, stressing that great ideas mean little unless they reach the people who need them most. From the laboratory bench to underserved communities, he made a compelling case for building a healthcare system that supports homegrown solutions at scale.

That message of local innovation meeting real-world impact continues this July in Lagos. The 4th CZI SMART Africa Workshop will bring together top health innovators, researchers, MRI scientists’ and policymakers from across the world to explore how we move from ideas to implementation. If you’re working to shape the future of healthcare in Africa, this is where the conversations and collaborations begin.

The workshop runs from July 23 to 25, 2025. Registration closes on June 15, 2025.
