We are glad to share that Prof. Godwin Ogbole, Director of SMART Africa Network, has been conferred the Senior Fellow Award of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), recognized at the 2026 Annual Meeting in Cape Town on 11 May 2026.

Prof. Ogbole is the first indigenous African to receive this honour in the Society's history. The Fellowship recognises sustained, outstanding contributions to magnetic resonance in medicine — and his work speaks for itself. Prof. Ogbole has earned it through years of pioneering work in low-field MRI optimisation and relentless commitment to building MRI capacity across Africa.

He accepts this award on behalf of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, his mentors, colleagues, and the patients across Africa who inspire everything he does.

This is a proud moment — for him, for SMARTA, and for African science— and a deserving one.
