In a remarkable display of International Partnership, Professor Godwin Ogbole from the Department of Radiology at the University of Ibadan delivered a special lecture at the University of Southern California’s Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute on August 22, 2025. His talk, “MRI Research and Clinical Practice in Africa: Training to Translation,” highlighted the challenges and advancements in MRI applications across Africa, focusing on how training programs translate into improved clinical outcomes and research innovations on the continent.

This event followed an earlier engagement in Nigeria on July 22, 2025, where Professor Ogbole hosted USC’s Professor Danny Wang during a one-day intensive workshop on Arterial Spin Labelling (ASL) MRI at Redeemer’s Health Village, Mowe. That workshop focused on advanced MRI techniques with the goal of building local expertise and fostering research capacity in Africa.

These reciprocal visits reflect a growing bridge between African and US research communities, advancing global neuroimaging efforts through shared knowledge and collaboration.

By sharing knowledge and expertise, both institutions are advancing the field of neuroimaging, with a shared mission to improve healthcare and scientific understanding globally.
Danny Wang is again scheduled to work with the SMART Africa team at our next meeting in Cape town South Africa in May 2025.
